Am I a Candidate for Root Canal Treatment?

You may be a candidate for root canal treatment if you experience:
- Ongoing discomfort in a tooth.
- Tooth sensitivity that doesn’t seem to fade.
- Swelling in your gums or face.
- Sharp pain when biting down.
In many cases, these symptoms indicate an infection inside your tooth that a root canal is specifically designed to remove. During your visit, our team will examine your tooth to determine whether a root canal is the best option for you.
What Happens During a Root Canal?

During a root canal, our team first numbs the affected area with a local anesthetic. Then, they will use special instruments to make a small hole in your tooth before removing the infected tissue inside. Once the pulp is cleared away, the inside of your tooth is cleaned, disinfected, and sealed to prevent future bacterial spread. Most root canals take around 30 minutes to an hour per tooth, depending on location and root structure.
Benefits of Root Canals

A root canal offers several important oral health benefits:
- Removes infection and stops pain.
- Prevents bacteria from spreading.
- Preserves your natural tooth.
- Maintains proper chewing and bite alignment.
- Helps you avoid extraction and more complex procedures later.
When possible, our team will always choose to save your natural tooth, as it’s almost always the healthiest (and least costly) option.
Pulp Treatment for Children is Also Available!

Often called a “baby” root canal, pulp treatment uses a similar process to treat primary teeth, relieving pain, removing infection, and preventing early tooth loss. Keeping baby teeth healthy is important, as they support proper chewing, speech development, and spacing for the adult teeth still developing under the surface.
